7 states, 2 casinos and 1 very good muffin

I traveled (by car) to New York this past week for work and to visit my sister.  It was a 7 state whirlwind trip through Virginia, West Virginia (casino 1), Maryland, New Jersey (casino 2), Connecticut, New York, and Pennsylvania.  I took my camera but it was foggy and rainy the whole trip so no pictures this time.

As I drove, I kept seeing Perkins Restaurant billboards.  Their advertising worked.  I stopped at a Perkins for lunch on the way through Pennsylvania.  I had an excellent Country Cookin'  Benedict. The Blueberry muffin side was excellent. I highly recommend it!

Travel Fun for the kids

100_1739
In my traveling lull, I have taken to making travel items for kids.   These I Spy bags are great for taking on trips, entertaining kids at the restaurant table or keeping them quiet in waiting rooms.  Each bag is filled with hidden items that emerge as the child moves the bag around.  A list of the hidden items is attached.  I Spy bags are a fun quiet time activity.100_1747

I sell the bags on Etsy (similar to Ebay but for handmade items).  Everything I sell is made from fleece.  I think fleece is such a great travel material. It is soft, cozy and easily washed. The other fleece items that I sell include toy totes, dog toys and blankets.

Cute luggage wraps

Il_430xN.31488945[1]I am always on the lookout for unique travel items. These neat handmade luggage wraps can be found on Etsy (an online marketplace for handmade items). Once I decided to feature the luggage wraps on my blog, I asked the creator to let me know the story behind the wraps. Comments from the creator:

I make and embroider the wraps during my off time from my job as a flight attendant. At first, I started making wraps as gifts for my coworkers. I had many, many requests for the wraps and soon www.binhog.com was born. I also do custom orders through my other website www.binhog.com.

You can find the prefect wrap for your luggage at www.binhog.etsy.com.

Coffee Mug Tree

0815081544
If you ever happen to travel State Route 11 in Virginia between Salem and Crows, you will see beautiful mountains, cows, horses, deer and peaceful rural landscapes. As you near New Castle, if you're lucky, you will also catch a glimpse of this coffee mug tree. There must be at least 100 different coffee mugs nailed to the tree. I don't know the story behind it but I sure would like to.

Find the cheapest gas in your city

Gas prices have been dropping nationwide this week.  In my area, the price at the pump can vary up to 10 cents between gas stations. Driving around to find the cheapest gas is not the smartest idea - you can quickly burn up those saved cents.

In efforts to save those cents, I looked on the Internet to see if there was a way to locate the cheapest gas prices on-line.

I found www.GasBuddy.com. Visitors to the website enter a city or zip code and a list of low gas prices/locations for the area is generated. According to the website, people working together to share information about gas prices will "promote competition and drive down the retail price of gasoline". The gas prices are collected from Gas Price Spotters. Spotters are individuals who enter the low gas prices they find in their city.

Using the website can really help you find the best gas deals in your hometown.  It is definitely quicker and cheaper than driving around looking for the best gas deals!
